Advent 2020 - Week 4
December 19th, 2020
The Gospel for the 4th Sunday of Advent is the Annunciation event. God sent the Angel Gabriel to Mary to announce to her that she was to conceive and bear a son and name him Jesus. He was to be the long- awaited Messiah. Israel, God's Chosen People, had a long wait for him.
While waiting they were to keep the Covenant, trusting in God's care for them, keep praying for God's Word to be done. In our present situation, waiting for the COVID-19 crisis to be over or a vaccine to be found, we need to realize there is no quick fix, no cure-all vaccine, no "corona virus Messiah". While waiting, we need to remain faithful to mask wearing, social distancing, hand washing, surface washing, etc. Mary is the "Model of all Christians". We need to pray to her as in the "Hail Mary" "Holy Mary, pray for us sinners now and always". And to pray her prayer-the "Magnificat" Luke 1/46-50 and pray constantly.
"My being proclaims the greatness of the Lord, my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, for he has looked upon his servant in her lowliness; all ages to come shall call me blessed. God who is mighty has done great things for me.”
De Colores ~ Fr. Dan
The Magnificat
The Prayer Of Mary
My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord,
my spirit rejoices in God my Savior
for he has looked with favor on his lowly servant.
From this day all generations will call me blessed:
the Almighty has done great things for me,
and holy is his Name.
He has mercy on those who fear him
in every generation.
He has shown the strength of his arm,
he has scattered the proud in their conceit.
He has cast down the mighty from their thrones,
and has lifted up the lowly.
He has filled the hungry with good things,
and the rich he has sent away empty.
He has come to the help of his servant Israel
for he remembered his promise of mercy,
the promise he made to our fathers,
to Abraham and his children forever.
(Lk 1: 46-55)
